To the user, your front-end is your product.
As much as I love thinking about UX, I dislike implementing it.
Iterating over my back-end code brings me joy. Do the same with UX? Not so much. It’s tedious. It’s all about the sum of minimal tweaks. Each of which requires a lot of…

Sora by OpenAI shows that AI is best at answering questions that have no right or wrong answers. That’s probably why AI won’t do your taxes for you, ever.

Programmers should always keep in mind that they are writing code for other programmers and their future selves. Not for the machine, the greater good or their preset selves.

Today, someone paid the one-time fee for @scrutch. This has never happened before. I have no words to describe my feelings. There is a fellow human being out there who voluntarily paid €50 + VAT just because she/he likes a product I’ve made. Which is free to use anyway. Wow! 💜

If I could afford an all-electric Porsche, I wouldn’t buy one.

Good quality mechanical products tend to gain value over time. Electronic products tend to lose value, regardless of their quality at launch.

So would you spend 100k+ on an all-electric Porsche today? Especially if…

I’m not going to post a picture of me wearing Apple’s Vision Pro today. But I can offer a picture of my disappointed face looking into the refrigerator.

With tools like Docker and the trend back to monoliths, single tenancy will finally make sense for B2B again. It allows you to put both legal and physical ownership in the hands of your customers. That’s where it belongs. And it’s what professional clients really want.

Well, this hits me hard as I am a strong advocate of web and PWA. But let’s be realistic: if you’re headed for the perfect mobile UX, native is still unbeatable. On desktop, the gap has narrowed. Apple plays a big part in this by enforcing a lot with its SDK and guidelines.

The app name of Threads is missing a few things. Happy to correct:

“Threads, an Instagram app, by Meta, formerly Facebook (we own What’s App, too, but at least we’re not Elon Musk)”

A high number of slides is not necessarily an indicator of a bad presentation. Any number > 0 of bullet points is.

I use Apple Maps for navigation. Great UI for turn-by-turn and public transit directions. And goes easy on my battery. Google Maps for anything else, like checking hours, photos, reviews or navigation on foot. When it comes to data Google is still king, since we’re all sources.

Self-promotion. Always a little embarrassing. But since I’m currently reading “Traction” by Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares, I have to find ways to recoup operating expenses like this.

Dare I ask when someone will offer Bloomberg a deal to refresh the user interface of their famous terminal? Looks like a VM running MS DOS.
