As someone who speaks a 2nd language at about the same level of fluency as Zelensky’s English, it surprises me that no one has referenced this in their analysis of the oval office row. Nuance, dexterity and manners are very hard to achieve 2 against 1 in a foreign language

Amidst the jubilation, the reality of war breaks through. Several army soldiers & Sudan TV journalists were killed in an RSF drone attack on the palace this morning. Including the much loved & respected head of military media Lt. Colonel Hassan Ibrahim. A kind, honourable man.

Five years ago tonight - just after PM Boris Johnson announced the first lockdown. My camerawoman Rachel, producer Alex and I gathered in a Bristol park to explain what the new rules would mean for daily life. “It’s hard to get your head around”

📣 Some news about me: Yesterday (Wednesday) I was detained by police in Istanbul, held for 17 hours and then deported from Turkey to the UK. Told I was “a threat to public order”. In the country I lived in - and love. Journalism is not a crime. Here’s the BBC’s statement:

What a picture. Described as “a symbolic meeting that has the potential to be historic” by Zelensky. Two months after the shouting of the Oval Office, a seemingly calmer exchange in the Vatican. Is Pope Francis’ funeral the moment Donald Trump brought peace closer to Ukraine?

I’ve thought a lot about whether it’s the right thing to talk about Rachel Reeves crying at PMQs. Because crying is not something we should be ashamed of, or something we should be judged for. Because crying is something associated with women - and in particular this misogynistic
