I love the smell of sunscreen. Even though I now live in Florida and smell it all the time, it still brings me back to childhood trips to the beach. And that is why you need to add smell (and touch and hearing) into your descriptions. Powerful stuff! #writetip

Imagine going to a doctor's appointment and finding out your doctor is out because she's experiencing "doctor's block." Sounds silly, right? So why do we let writer's block make the decision for us about whether to write? Take control and keep going! #writetip

Do all of your characters sound like each other? Or like you? Real people have unique voices and so should your characters. Some might use slang while others speak formally. One might ramble on while another uses clipped sentences. Make them sound like individuals!

Oooh, I love it when clients send me signed copies of their books! It makes me happy every day to be a part of bringing authors' books to the world.

When you're getting close to the end of an editing project and start editing more slowly than is probably necessary because you don't want it to end. God, I love my job. Gabrielle Stone

"Miranda was 5'10", much taller than her classmates." Ho hum. Let physical descriptions tell us about more than looks. E.g., "Miranda bent her tall frame over, trying not to stand out in the crowd of more reasonably sized tenth graders” shows mental state as well. #writetip

Worried that your first draft is a hot mess? Relax! First drafts are about figuring it out, not perfecting it. All that floundering you are doing is important creative work. #writetip

Editing isn’t one thing. There are different levels of editing with different goals. Make sure both you and your editor know what type of editing you are looking for before the edit begins. #writetip

Integrate scene description into action to keep it interesting. Don’t tell us it’s sunny and hot. Show your character hurrying to put on her sunglasses and cranking up the AC in her car. #writetip

In real life we “shoot the breeze.” In your novel, the dialogue has to count. If it doesn’t provide something vital to the story or characterization, cut it. #writetip

🤩🤩 “I was so nervous to choose the right editor for such a personal project. I cannot explain how wonderful it has been to work with Erica. She elevated my books without changing my essence. I will never trust my work with anyone else." Gabrielle Stone, author Eat, Pray, #FML
