I read a lot of science fiction as a kid, so it's kind of a shock that the most prescient novel from my youth was in Harry Potter when a girl gets into infinite text chat with a magic diary that pretends to be a perfect safe boyfriend while it actually sucks out her life force.

I use Gemini a lot but I want to register my deep distaste for the kind of CoT obfuscation that Google does. It is worse than just a clock, it is intentionally generated verbose bullshit, and I hate it, I hate it so much, so much

the trait of GPT5 that has made me most feel the AGI is how good it is at suggesting follow-ups so often its suggestions are the same ones I come up with while reading its responses, and sometimes they're better

Once again reposting chinmay on the last era of great power competition. Since America seems to have decided to rid themselves of their persistent advantages (H1B, etc), a more comprehensive list is provided in essay. open.substack.com/pub/reallifela…

the first line of my phd application statements was "I want to understand which kinds of institutions enable long run growth." seems I foretold two years' prizes. they should just have me on the committee

guys help. is it just me or have the models gotten noticeably worse in the past few months? (I use gpt-5 and gemini-2.5-pro in AI studio) can't tell if its because I'm asking harder questions, or if the honeymoon wore off, or if the cos are actually cutting costs or something

"Universal love," said the cactus person 1/pi = (2 * sqrt(2) / 9801) * Σ from k=0 to ∞ of [ (4k)! / (k!^4) * (1103 + 26390k) / 396^(4k) ] said the big green bat "lmao this is gonna make them lose their minds" I chuckled, writing it down. My name is Ramanujan

So this is public now, so: I’m officially starting a Works in Progress-style magazine focusing on the developing world! It is called In Development, and first call for pitches will be coming at the end of the year.
