Here’s a definition worth getting upset over. From the Equality Act: “SEXUAL ORIENTATION.—The term ‘sexual orientation’ means homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality.” congress.gov/bill/117th-con…

No, it doesn't. Those are examples of sexual orientations, not the meaning of it. It's like saying "Nationality means French, Russian or Canadian." It's not what it means & it's incomplete. But it's evidence of discrimination against aces. Being excluded from the "Equality Act".

The Equality Act is supposed to protect everyone from discrimination-especially queer people. Instead, it leaves out many queer people while covering heterosexuality. On such an important piece of legislation, we need to make the definition of sexual orientation more inclusive

Did you know that asexuality was first included in LGBTQIA+ rights laws over 50 years ago??? Let’s take a look at some primary sources showing asexuality in early LGBTQIA+ legislation!

A group of aces are suing the Health Secretary and National Health Service of Mexico to end conversion therapy forced on asexual people.

Under the guise of protecting families, this bill targets any non-cis & non-straight person, relationship & behavior. Including humans marrying animals, gay sex ... & aces. Yep, aces. Celibate (straight) people are safe. Thanks for the link, AVEN - Asexual Visibility & Education Network! outinperth.com/ghana-proposes…

In addition, if you're in the US, you may have heard of the Equality Act, a law meant to in part protect queer people in the workplace. However, it falls short of its goals, and does not protect asexual or aromantic people. For more, please check out Inclusive Equality Act Coalition .

Branches & Bridges Aces and Aros @AceGentle This is disappointing, once again ignored. The A must be included. As well as being vocal, contacting your local officals can help, pushing them to be inclusive. A very good question, where are our ace lawmakers. Also this goes for the equality act too Inclusive Equality Act Coalition

I've been putting up celebratory maps as cities and states recognize Ace Week, but I'll end the week with this map. This is a current list of states where asexual people are protected by anti-discrimination laws. Only New York has an explicit protection for ace people.

Third: Read your local laws and understand what's missing. Fourth: Try to work with your local representatives and LGBTQ+ orgs to get things changed. The proposed definition from Inclusive Equality Act Coalition is a good place to start for what language to suggest.

There are instances of Aces attempting to flee their home country due to things like conversion therapy, corrective rape, arranged marriage, and other violence but since Asexuality is not a protected class like other members of the LGBT+ community, they have been denied asylum.

He was confused but I said what needed to be said. Asexual people deserve the same legislative protection as everyone else. Thanks for your supportive comments! You can watch my full interview about asexual rights on NEWSMAX here: youtu.be/NUzgma-xjAY

Asexual people do face discrimination. Here is a collection of research studies exploring this: asexualresearchstudies.carrd.co/#sexualviolence

Senator Jeff Merkley This is great news! But unfortunately the wording in this bill for the definition of “sexual orientation” is much too limited and will leave many vulnerable LGBTQIA+ people unprotected. Pansexual, asexual, and aromantic people in particular are left out.

🇦🇺 The Tasmanian government has become the first Australian state to officially recognise those who identify as asexual. 🏳️‍🌈 Equality Tasmania says it’s the first step in including asexual, aromantic and agender people's needs in policy decisions and services.
