Now that's a great job. Obviously it helps if you have hundreds of branches so you can afford such an extensive refurb and to stay shut for a long time, but still, impressive improvement. (Juno, Roath.)

A kid just got knocked off his bike on Lake Road West. The motorist had no chance - a witness said the cyclist pulled straight out across the road without stopping. He's bloodied and has facial injuries, but if the traffic had been going 27mph+ it would have been worse.

Cardiff Castle will glow red on Tues 6 May as the city marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. There's a picnic in the Castle grounds open to all on Bank Holiday Monday 11-5, and a ‘Victory Days' exhibition Museum of Cardiff | Amgueddfa Caerdydd too. (Know someone in this June '45 pic from Heath Park?)

A fella who looks like an off duty Father Christmas has on a black T-shirt bearing the slogan I WILL NOT CALM DOWN AND YOU CAN F*** OFF. I told him I liked his shirt (in case it is Santa) but I instantly regretted not telling him to calm down for a more entertaining reaction.

The single from the brilliant Panic Shack, "Girl Band Starter Pack", is out with a video of, um, body doubles, havin' a rather messy day out in Cardiff. Featuring Womanby Street and Fuel Rock Club, and of course Caroline Street. youtu.be/SMl6LSQ8GYs?si…

Very sad to see that Little Man Coffee is closing its Bridge Street cafe – a stalwart, a constant, and a symbol of indie Cardiff. (The wife's going to be absolutely gutted.) Rob should be very proud. "It's not the end of the world – just different to the one we'd hoped for."

An impressive acoustic cover of Springsteen's Dancing In The Dark by Aberdare boy John Adams, randomly found on Spotify. open.spotify.com/track/4e1imir3…

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, there has to be a better way to secure doctor appointments than being kept in a queue for 30 minutes.

I know it's sad but I'm quite smug about my storage solution for Cardiff's red and blue recycling sacks from JYSK, made with hard wood and a steel lid. Never bought a bad product from JYSK, by the way.

Did you know that Techniquest is celebrating 30 years in Cardiff Bay? It opened 1 May 1995. That makes me feel very old indeed. I remember it being in The Hayes.
