• Fifty years ago today - June 6, 1975 - University of Illinois long jumper Charlton Ehizuelen captured the individual title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Provo, Utah. The Fighting Illini sophomore from Nigeria leaped a meet record 26 feet, 11 inches.

• June 6 marks the 90th anniversary of the birthday of Illinois Football and Illinois Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and had his jersey number 49 retired by the Washington Redskins. Langston High School
