During the history of mankind people have worshipped an estimated 18,000 gods. Which means that an atheist believes in one less god that the most devout religious person. We have 17,999 gods in common so why make such a big deal about that last one?

In 1476 William Caxton introduced printing to England and he had to standardise the English language that varied greatly at the time. For example, he chose to use the Old Norse word Egg instead of the traditional Anglo-Saxon word Eyre. I wonder what other words we lost.
