“For Issam Kourbaj, the process of drawing seems to be his metronome: a daily process of trying to figure out (as in, make sense of) and figure the form of (as in, give presence to) his nostalgia, longing for a home that has to be felt but not necessarily fulfilled.”

So moved by the Urgent Archive exhibition by issamkourbaj currently Kettle's Yard. Remembering CCI's project together back in 2002 and the beautiful bold imaginations he inspired in the nursery - including the plan to 'stick Issam down'. Dreaming of the young adults they've become.

If you’re in Athens next month, don’t miss this talk with artist issamkourbaj at Moon Station Athens, an arts salon I run in the centre of the city at a friend’s design studio, on the second floor of a 1930s building, opposite the old Greek parliament.

Grateful & humbled by artist Issam Kourbaj's work & that my work "started Kourbaj’s quest for an Urgent Archive, his Cambridge's Kettle’s Yard exhibition." "At the centre of the exhibition is the story of Mansour, who used blood to document his fellow inmates' identities. Link:⬇️
