It can make an already qualified person even more valuable. Everyone who cares about the safety and wellbeing of the people who work and live in our prisons should be pulling for the new team at BOP to succeed. nbcnews.com/politics/polit…

Homicides are down 21% year-to-date in 2025 across the top 30 cities, following national declines of 12% in 2023 and 15% in 2024. If this trend holds, the U.S. could see the fewest murders in over 50 years and the lowest per capita homicide rate ever recorded.

We urge the House to vote NO on the HALT Fentanyl Act. This legislation would schedule fentanyl-related substances as schedule I using a flawed class definition, impose mandatory minimums, and fail to provide an offramp to remove harmless substances from the drug schedule.

Today is #Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. It is a day to recognize freedom and to reflect on and acknowledge the racism, injustice, and slavery that still exists in our nation's institutions and criminal legal system.

Last year was the largest one-year percentage point decline in murder ever recorded. This year is on track to do so again. In fact, nearly every category of crime is down sharply, with many at multi-decade lows or even the lowest per-capita rates ever recorded.

Founders: Devote half the Bill of Rights to criminal jury trials. Modern judges and prosecutors: I mean, that’s all well and good—but you could also just ask the guy if he did it, which turns out to be cheaper, easier, and *equally* reliable. Uh, no.

In Reese v. United States, we argue that judge-made theories of criminal liability pose grave danger that persons will be subject to criminal charges and punishment without fair warning that their conduct violates the law.

Contrary to the assertions of some politicians, the data continues to show a decrease in violent crime nationally year-on-year. Congress can help continue this positive trend by passing proven recidivism reduction policies like second chance initiatives. thehill.com/national-secur…
