Due to the #risks associated with ICP, induction of labour may be recommended - peak #BileAcid concentrations will be used to decide the best timing for this. To manage ICP, it is essential to monitor bile acid concentrations with regular, non-fasting blood tests #LiverTwitter

#Antihistamines may be helpful in #ICP due to the common side effect of drowsiness. Many people find their itching worsens at night, disturbing their sleep but so far there is no medication to stop the #itch. Taking an antihistamine before bed may help them to sleep more soundly.

We often get asked why the itching is so severe despite low #BileAcids. Bile acids are not directly linked to the #Itch but rather two other substances (lysophosphatidic acid and sulfated progesterone metabolites) are the cause. #LiverTwitter #ICP #ICPSupport #OC #Research

Back in the 90s, we began to realise that the #Itch in #ICP doesn't always go away completely and that some women continue to suffer after #Pregnancy from what is called #CyclicalItching. Researchers have yet to establish why this happens. #LiverTwitter #NotJustForPregnancy
