Today is Lp(a)Awareness Day! In this study: Lp(a) screening was rare & elevated Lp(a) was observed in more than 1/4 of patients receiving LLTs, with the highest mean Lp(a) levels observed in Black patients Read on: ow.ly/Vgij50NmOXV #KnowLpa @TheFHFoundation Nathan Wong

Sad to report that a very physically active 66 year old patient with negative nuclear 2 years ago, taken off statin with 'clean bill of health', just passed away of SCD/MI with severe 3 VD. Wife had to do CPR. Wrong test, wrong answer. Need more CAC testing in asymptomatic pts

Won’t improve without LDL-c as quality measure. Dare you to do a chart biopsy at your institution. Did this ~15 yrs ago at DOD facility. Piss poor results then, despite free meds.

Important for patients and the general public to understand that guidelines are guidelines and sometimes while attempting to adhere to rigorous science, can produce harmful and contradictory messaging. Nice to see societies like National Lipid Association & ASPC take a stand!

A critically important study published today by Drs Maron and Rodrigues in JACC Journals showing incidental CAC from ungated studies predict events and offer patients and clinicians a NO-COST opportunity to treat ASCVD. 2x risk of death with CAC > 100. RADIOLOGISTS - REPORT CAC

Protect your heart ❤️ Elevated LDL-C doesn't just raise numbers; it raises risks for atherosclerosis, heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Take action for a healthier tomorrow for our patients! #HeartHealth #KnowYourNumbers" #HeartMonth #LipidSpecialist #LearnYourLipids

It’s true that “normal” ApoB is plenty to produce ASCVD It’s true that LLT should start early and aggressively in those at risk It’s true that CAC has excellent 10 yr value It’s NOT true that EVERYONE should be LLT It’s true high ApoB should be treated w/ CAC = 0 All true

People want to know what causes vascular inflammation/fire…and how to put it out and prevent it from rekindling…well here is the analogy. It’s not turmeric, it’s not cinnamon, or some quack’s supplements…it’s ApoB. Simple. Shut off the source of fuel

Check out this WSJ article on ApoB and Lp(a). Well summarized with a nice diagram, arming patients with valuable insight to advocate for themselves!

I had a blast nerding out on lipids and other cardiometabolic topics with Rosemarie Beltz on her podcast Second Opinion. Check it out! youtube.com/playlist?list=… podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sec…
