The days off to a good start

First day trip of the year, and to a city I've not been to before: Cottbus! Amazed by the fantastic range of architectural styles it has to offer. From Baroque to Art Nouveau, 1930s Brick Expressionism to 1970s East German industrial architecture.

Visited the Oberkirche St. Nikolai in Cottbus today. The first church here dates back to at least 1156. The current one was built around the early 15th century. The church burnt down at the end of WWII but was reconsecrated in 1955, with the last renovations completed in 2008.

The Pulpit dates back to the year 1736 - was actually taken from the Franciscan monastery church in Frankfurt Oder - which was turned into a concert hall in 1971.

Not much survived the destruction of WWII, but there are traces here and there. Since 2015, the church belongs to the Community of the Cross of Nails, and prominently displays it's cross of nails.
