“Weaponized autism” This is a term you hear a lot on the chans. Many QAnons refer to themselves as “autists.” Just a matter of time before the “QAnon Shaman’s” lawyer adds this concept to his legal defense.

I’ve always been very attached to my hair. Ppl love to compliment and touch my hair. It became a shield, part of the mask. I would literally hide my face with my hair as a teen. It helps me perform “feminine” better.

I think a lot of ND women, trans, and non binary people struggle with how to perform “feminine.” But then... I think NT folx do too.

One of the biggest things I’ve come to understand about Autism is the difference between feeling emotions and then performing them in the socially accepted way. We feel *all* the things. We just interpret and perform differently.

One thing that messed w/ my confidence was that I could deeply tune into other ppl’s feelings, but I felt completely lost in understanding how they behaved. Ppl often do the opposite of what they feel in the social arena. I couldn’t make sense of that.

Sense making, for me, is emotionally pragmatic moreso than it is socially pragmatic. I prioritize genuine emotion and sensory needs- my own & the other person. That can be jarring and seem rude. It gets right to the point.

NTs often want to perform their reveal of emotion and need and decide how they reveal it to you and non verbally indicate what they want. My autistic ass is just out here already on step 5. I get why that can feel like an invasion of privacy. 🤣

My experience of social performance is: I can perceive it and I know intellectually it has value and meaning. But it doesn’t add up with the sensory emotional info I’m getting, so I can’t get it to load into my sense making brain.

I don’t think of my autistic brain as logical. It’s pragmatic. I think having an intense sensory experience is part of the reason why: sense making becomes very elemental. Not all of that kind of info is rational, but it is extremely practical.
