I can’t tell you how viscerally moved I was by Jack Thorne's writing for this show. His empathy and insight for the multiple disabled character stories is remarkable, and shines a light on the validity and importance of telling disabled narratives. Best Interests BBC1 9pm tonight

Less than 5% of shows are directed by disabled talent - against a working population of 19%. Broadcasters are failing disabled talent, and we need to see clear commissioning targets, a willingness to hire under-represented talent and a structure that supports career progression.
