Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King. #MLK

Today is MLK Day. You will see lots of posts and quotes and pictures of him on Social Media today. You will not be seeing that in this post. I am choosing to post a picture of Dr.King in jail for a reason. Actions have results , sometimes good sometimes bad.

Dr.King was arrested, brutalized, and was harassed in his life. The Government of the United States put a target on his back. Dr.King was more than a great orator that spoke of unity, he was a rebel, he was an activist. He didn’t always have a permit.

Dr.King was not a friend to the oppressor, he was not an ally to the segregationists - they hated him. The love you are seeing online for this man today, while being while deserved, is highly performative.

I am choosing to honor Dr. King by actively standing against racism, speaking out without regret, stood up for the underdogs, and MADE himself both a beacon of hope and a target of hate. Today let’s honor the man and the mission- not the myth and the G-rated narrative.
