This scenario appeared feasible to me because during my Ph.D., I traveled extensively to various countries, and during my stays, hotels often requested a copy of my passport for identity verification purposes (4/n) #Jamtara

I was given all the details by that customer care executive. One Ram Mohan with Employee ID R509621. He was very cooperative and seemed to have experience in handling such cases. (5/n)

Later, it was said police needed to get involved because it included illegal items. The customer care executive patiently gave me details about the parcel & 'patched' the call to Mumbai-Andheri Police Cyber Cell (6/n)

My call was transferred to the department SI Smita Patil (not sure if this is a legit ID), who cross-checked all the details about the parcel and me if I had a suspicion about anyone. She multiple times asked if I had sent the parcel and why I'm not sounding confident (7/n)

The SI Smita Patil asked details about my family and myself (which I didn’t give). Upon denying this over call, she asked me to come to the Andheri-cyber-crime police station for ID verification as fast as possible. Since I live in Powai, I will reach there in an hour (8/n).

She kept on insisting to come fast; otherwise, I may have to face the consequences. warned if I don’t show up, police my involve my Institute in this case &it can affect my degree. In the meantime, I could hear murmuring voices of wireless, which seemed to me possible (9/n)

Lastly, I told her that I haven’t done anything wrong and therefore I am not afraid of coming to the Andheri cyber-crime police station for ID verification (she said the call is getting recorded) (10/n)
