Should we keep speaking about the injustices we see, even when it feels risky or stay silent because it's safer? Is silence survival, or quiet acceptance of what should never be normal?

Seeing what happened to Agather Atuhaire broke something in me. As human rights defenders, we walk a path lined with danger. Today it’s her tomorrow, it could be any of us. We must speak of all injustices.. Silence is betrayal

Honored to join fellow human rights defenders, civil society actors & partners for the launch of the Uganda Civic Space Index 2024 by @NCHRD_U with support from DanChurchAid. A timely reflection on the state of our freedoms & the space we defend. #CivicSpaceUG #UGCSIndex2024

President Museveni has assented to the UPDF (Amendment) Act, 2025—just weeks after the Supreme Court ruled against trying civilians in military courts. Any provision allowing this violates the Constitution. Let’s be clear: military justice is for soldiers, not civilians.

I’m more than confused. The UPDF (Amendment) Act, 2025 now classifies ceremonial shoes and gum boots as military stores under Schedule B. As a farmer, I own green gum boots. Like many Ugandans, I also have black shoes. Are we all now criminals?
