Spent the week soil testing and started to sow GRDC funded N management trials. Canola sown into wheat stubble from last year’s trial. We soil tested after harvest which showed very low N so retested to see mineralisation over summer. FarmLink Research James Hunt

Lots of trial site visits this past week to spread urea and post-em sprays. Very lucky to have decent rain through most of our region to keep things moving along nicely. FarmLink Research

Canola absolutely thriving in this Hart Bros Seeds trial south of Lockhart thanks to strong lucerne pasture history. Trial is to compare gross margins over three years between variety/risk strategy choice in a rotation e.g high input hybrid vs low input OP. FarmLink Research

Pasture trial site at Temora has been going crazy with the last few weeks of sunshine. Pasture cuts done today but should’ve been done earlier. I’ll be doing a walk through at the FarmLink Research Open Day for anyone one whose keen for look. 8th Sep. #FutureDroughtFund Southern NSW Innovation Hub

Keen to show off our #RiskWise Nitrogen site at the FarmLink Research Open Day Friday 8th Sept. We can start to see how does a decile 2 (low risk) compare to a decile 7 (high risk) or is N banking a better approach. Come and share your own ideas as well! GRDC

Last weekend at home together on the family farm. I’m a bit biased but has been a top performing operation built over many years of hard work. Mum and Dad can walk away from a job well done!

Starting my thesis this year on intercropping. Focusing on soil health. Keen to see if 2 species are just competing for nitrogen/water or can actually help each other out. Measuring infiltration, soil fungi etc. CWFS Riverine Plains Soil CRC
