The local media on Long Island try to mislead and fear monger so housing reforms don’t happen. Imagine actually thinking the Town of Huntington would build 40,000 apartments in one area of the town. In actual reality, the proposal contains a "pause" 400 apartments are built.

“I see a vibrant, walkable downtown, with wide sidewalks and outdoor dining and outdoor retailing … an economic and social center in Melville that's going to attract new businesses to the area, along with giving their employees a way to stay locally,” Smyth said.  Let’s go! 🏘️

"I wish my kids could afford to live near me." "I wish I could downsize without having to leave my neighborhoods." Well, here's the solution.

actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell… Please sign the petition to support the Melville Town Centre: A walkable downtown with park space, shops, restaurants and the much needed housing. All by converting empty offices and parking lots!

Huntington Township Housing Coalition Long Islanders take action! Great proposal to make Melville even better. Of course, we ❤️ any opportunity for #AffordableHousing but it’s part of a plan to bring vibrancy to walkable center by converting empty office & parking. Exactly the kind of redevelopment we need across NY!

California NIMBYism is so extreme that Redondo Beach has denied the demolition of a power plant next to a beach in order to block the construction of more housing.

Whenever a good mixed use development plan is introduced on Long Island, you can always expect misleading and fear mongering mailers to be sent out. Please sign our petition which tells the Huntington Town Board to support this plan: actionnetwork.org/petitions/tell…

“But the pro-building speakers, including many in their 20s and 30s, argued that they needed more affordable opportunities to rent so that they could move back to their hometowns or move here for jobs that awaited them.A handful of employers and recruiters made the same argument.”

The Melville Town Centre proposal would allow for the conversion of unused office space, bringing hundreds of apartments to an area that urgently needs new housing. Come support it at 2pm next Tuesday, May 7th at Huntington Town Hall!

Sterling Heights, MI, joins a list of other Detroit suburbs that will convert dying malls into town centers. Lakeside Mall will be redeveloped into 2,800 new housing units and a town center. Converting dead malls is an easy way to create town centers in the suburbs.

If you need to make $242K to afford a home on Long Island, who exactly are we building for? Proud to speak with Newsday about why our leaders can’t keep dragging their feet—residents are being priced out every day. We need action.
