Aerial Views of Albert Square, St Peter's Square, showing the Town Hall, Manchester in 1922. Notice the smoke pollution the buildings before the Town Hall extension was built. Note the trams pass the front dooe of the town hall. #Manchester #History #HistoryMatters

Fun has turned into fun & games - 1st. A file I needed couldn’t be requested so a special order had to be made. 2nd. I lost my readers card - thankfully found it. And 3rd, just as I got the elusive file - the fire alarm went off & were all now outside! 🫤 #funandgames

It was quite a day at The National Archives but managed to see all the documents I needed! 😀A big shout out to the staff who not only helped me view a file that was originally unable 2 be viewed but they also swiftly managed a building full of people during a fire alarm! 👍👏 #archives

Leonard Campbell Tayor is an obscure name in the art market, but in the 1930s, he explored the gentle rurality of inter-war England with great sensitivity. His 'Restaurant Car,' (1936) recalls the days of silver service meals on British railways.

Daphne Park, dubbed the "Queen of Spies," instructed Second World War Resistance units but was subsequently sacked for highlighting a senior officer’s ineptitude. She later rose to prominence as a leading MI6 operative in Hanoi, Moscow, the Congo, and Zambia.

If you’re in the area, it’d be great to see you at my event at the Chipping Campden Literature Festival 2025 on Friday 25th. The Undesirables reveals why, in the 20th century, so many people were institutionalised when they had nothing ‘wrong’ with them. Tickets here shorturl.at/9RQOr

Dali's 'Christ of St John of the Cross,' (1951) is one of the most celebrated and criticised religious paintings of the 20thC. The power of the image rests on the paradoxes it presents to the viewer: Christ is immediately and physically present but also distant.

One of the most beautiful things about Spring mornings, as the sun just rises and rushes low over the fields, is the way the light picks out every brand new leaf on each tree, as if celebrating their shiny return. It was such a beautiful sight on this little #PeakDistrict lane,
