Tyrese Maxey: 1) 37% from 3 last season (down from 43/42), assisted on just 60% of his 3's. Both will go up. 2) Career high USG/AST+career low TOV%=playmaking leap. 3) It's reasonable to project more improvement with his age+low-hanging fruit paths to improve (finishing at rim).

People who don’t follow the Knicks likely come down too hard on Thibs, but it’s also misleading to post MPG #s with a full rotation as if that ends the conversation. If you want a good faith discussion, here’s a mini ep we had on Thibs at Hot Hand Theory youtu.be/cmqElC1kZOY?si…

One of my favorite conversations that's occurred at HHT. Unsurprisingly I add very little, but XJ and DJ are absolutely in their specific bags here doing what they do best. This subject is a macro theoretical one that will be relevant to NBA team-building for a long time.

Fun question because it opens an interesting can of worms about player profiles in 2024. There are plenty of bad teams that would gladly take him and try to maximize him, but the uncomfortable truth is there may not be an established good team setup to get the most out of Ingram.

Barely a year in and we're getting tossed in with some unbelievable company. This is so cool! Keep with us folks we've got a lot of great stuff in store before next season starts

Is LaMelo Ball the next breakout star in the NBA? Xavier Justin certainly thinks so. Who do YOU think is most likely to make their first All-NBA team next season?

This is HHT at its best here. XJ blends his unique understanding of various impact metrics with a love of basketball and film study.

Is Tyrese Maxey's playmaking flying under the radar? Frank Barrett thinks so. For those who don't know, last season Maxey's USG jumped from 23.7% to 27.4% and his AST% went from 16.6% to 25.7%. Yet despite this clear increase in role and burden, his TOV% was a career-low 6.9%.

Naturally, Xavier Justin had a really good rant about this exact topic on Hot Hand Theory recently. Brunson is a very nice bail-out option, arguably the best in the NBA. His existence shouldn’t force complacency though. More early offense+more tempo SHOULD=higher effectiveness.

On his guest appearance on The Strickland podcast, Frank Barrett sang the praises of the scalability that Devin Booker showcased in the Olympics this past summer and what it could mean for the potential ceiling of this year's Phoenix Suns.

Esfandiar Baraheni The wildest part to me is he’s a positive in almost entirely additive way. Coaches should love him as supporting pieces are the easiest to infuse non-disruptively. He shoots off the catch, attacks close outs, & defends his ass off. Here’s a thread we had on him at Hot Hand Theory.

Can we dispel this myth forever? The midrange isn’t dead. In fact, with defenses being as locked in on taking 3s and layups away as ever, often times a midrange shot is inarguably the optimal one. The only thing that’s dead is BAD midrange shooters having free rein to shoot them.

It's an often polarizing topic...."Three point shooting killed the midrange" But did it actually? I looked at every shot over the last 20 years, here's a short thread on what I found ⤵️🧵
