The typical life expectancy of a patient in need of hospice care is 6 months or less. However, it is not uncommon for some patients to live longer than that.

With hospice care, there is no time limit for how long a patient may receive services. Patients can stay under the care of hospice as long as they meet hospice criteria, which is determined by the physician.
