Awesome 3D visualization of the Arctic blast crossing the Plains...

As of 9:30am, temps across the Commonwealth range from 44 in Philly to 4 in Pittsburgh (w/ snow and a wind chill of -17F)! At this moment the Arctic front is crossing York county...and it will cross Lancaster co in the next hour or so. Hard freeze to follow this afternoon.

The first sub-zero reading (actual temp) in PA was just observed in Burgettstown (west of Pittsburgh) with a temp of -1F at 10:05am.

Today's high temp Millersville University was 54 at ~3:00am...and now (6:05pm) it's a brisk 10 degrees. Add in the #windchill effect and it feels like -3F!

EPIC!

One of the coldest #ChristmasEve days on record across the Commonwealth...with temps currently ranging from 7 near Philly to -8 degrees in the Laurel Highlands. Wind chills make it feel between -10 in the southeast to -30 in the snow-covered Alleghenies.

I took this photo running in 7 degree conditions this AM. I’ve always felt that if I’m gonna forecast extreme conditions…then I need to embrace and fully experience them! So I’m keen to run on the hottest & coldest days! 💪🏼😊

Here's Millersville University's temperature plot...showing an official low of 4 and high of 14. The mean temp for the day (9 degrees) ties the record for coldest December 24th. Today's high of 14, however, breaks the record for coldest "max temp" for this date.

Impressive indeed! But nothing is SE PA...

A mild start to 2023...w/ high temps today thru Thursday in the upper 50s to low 60s. Seasonably cool air will press back into the Commonwealth Friday into the weekend w/ a chance of a bit of light snow on Saturday...then a longer-shot chance of a coastal system next week. #yawn

Unbelievable video from the summit of Mt. Washington yesterday. No doubt one of the coldest spots on the planet yesterday; at least in terms of wind chill...which reached -108 degrees.
