April at Hope Shines: Holidays & History This month, our little ones will embark on a journey through Rwanda’s rich history while also enjoying the holiday season! From engaging activities that teach them about our nation’s past to taking part in Kwibuka Activities planned.

Today marks the start of #Kwibuka31 — the 31st Commemoration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi. We honor the lives lost, uplift the survivors, and pass on the lessons of Never Again to the next generation. Twibuke Twiyubaka — We remember, we rebuild, we rise.

As we remember the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, we, the youth, carry powerful responsibilities: To stand firm against anyone who denies, distorts, or disrespects our past. To build a Rwanda where unity, peace, and dignity thrive—so that what happened in 1994, #NeverAgain

Just one look at these joyful faces, and it’s easy to see why holidays matter! Breaks like these give our children the chance to relax, play, bond with friends and family, and simply enjoy being kids—free from the worries of what comes next. Stay tuned!

Yesterday, our children visited the Nyanza Genocide Memorial Site, where over 96,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi are are laid to rest. They didn’t just learn about the tragedy—they saw why "Never Again" must be more than words. #Kwibuka31 #NeverAgain

This week, our children will be sharing some of the things they’ve learned during the holiday break! Since this month’s theme was Holidays & History, they’ve had the chance to explore Rwanda’s past and reflect on meaningful lessons. Stay tuned!

At Hope Shines, we kick off the school term with Backpack Talks—our version of those heart-to-heart chats before heading back to class! We listen, share advice, and give each other compliments to start the term with confidence and kindness. It’s all laughs, love, and learning!
