The Friends Meetinghouse is now repoened after month's of closure due to the site's flood mitigation project!

Exciting news: Demonstrations in the Jesse Hoover Blacksmith Shop are starting next week on June 3! Stop by from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday all summer to see and visit with our blacksmiths at work. Schedule may change due to staffing reasons.

We're excited to announce that nearly all of the prairie trails are now open! Please see attached map. Open trails are marked in purple while there is a red X over closed trails. Thank you for your patience during construction and watch out for ticks if you walk the trails!

We recently installed new bird boxes in the prairie. They were intended to house Eastern Bluebirds, but we are happy to see any native species move in. This spring, it's the House Wren! They are attracted to the boxes as cavity nesters who like nest in sheltered chambers.

Consistent with CDC guidance regarding areas of substantial or high transmission, visitors to Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask inside all park buildings.

On September 5, 1931, the Hoovers hosted James R. Garfield, son of the tragically murdered President Garfield, at their Camp Rapidan. He had served as Secretary of the Interior under Theodore Roosevelt. You can visit the Garfield family home in Mentor, OH at James A. Garfield National Historic Site!
