Happy birthday, Arches National Park! #Onthisdate, Herbert Hoover declared the "Devil's Garden" and the "Windows" Arches National Monument using the authority given him by the Antiquities Act, thus placing them under National Park Service management.

On September 5, 1931, the Hoovers hosted James R. Garfield, son of the tragically murdered President Garfield, at their Camp Rapidan. He had served as Secretary of the Interior under Theodore Roosevelt. You can visit the Garfield family home in Mentor, OH at James A. Garfield National Historic Site!
