There is an unwritten agreement between NHS and Drs. If Drs staff the soul-crushing on calls in horrible DGHs (enforced via rotations) they will get career progression and training. MAPs seem to circumvent this. That's why the anger is so deep-seated and not going anywhere.

Patients need good doctors. Good doctors make the care of their patients their first concern. [Good Medical Practice, GMC 2021] This BMA Guidance has been written by good doctors. Seeing undifferentiated pts requires depth and breadth of knowledge FAR beyond a 2yr course.

If you “supervise” PAs and something goes wrong, and you end up in trouble with your employer, or worse, the GMC, then one of the first people you’ll call are the BMA. That’s why their guidance on scope of practice is critical.

After: 5 years medical school 1 year BSc 2 years Foundation training 3 Years Specialty training 1 year Medical Officer in South Africa 10 years GP I’m only now climbing up the “slope of enlightenment” If you’re confident after a 2 year course - you should be v worried ⚠️

This is truly terrible - the stress and impact on this doctors career doesn’t bear thinking about. I hope they were properly supported but based on what we know about MPTS they were probably thrown under the bus.

@tfl was supporting a medical emergency on a tube platform last night. The attitude of one of your workers was disgusting. She did not believe I was a doctor, presumably as I’m a young Black woman, and insisted I show ID. Cont/

🎯🎯MAPs wishing to expand their scope of practice have an established pathway that currently exists to allow them to gain the necessary qualifications: medical school. 🎯🎯

Strong recommend this role. It’s a supportive department with good volume of operating oncall and the asters gives you a great knowledge base for when you get your NTN

Highly recommended for someone with MRCS and SHO/CST experience and aiming for ST3 NTN G.Surgery... nhsjobs.com/job/UK/Merseys…

At the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, a fox fell through the roof into recovery. One way to beat the A&E queue I suppose.

New Royal College of General Practitioners data shows 4,200 GPs finished their training last week. But many are struggling to find work.
