A1 I've enjoyed working with my 8th grader, although it has been full of challenges. I am getting to know him so much better as a learner. I've also seen such amazing ideas & connections from teachers. The schoolwide "I miss you videos" are a small example of great ideas. #rrchat

A2 The great thing is that there is so much time to work together now. Try to get a little done each day, saving bigger tasks for the weekends. Even an hour on a Saturday of uninterrupted time is doable when we have ALL DAY and zero plans. #rrchat

A3 Listening to students...I have loved hearing what they are doing with their time. Modeling how we handle challenges..."I'm going to take a deep breath & be patient so I don't get so frustrated when the Internet isn't working." #rrchat

A4 Academic needs virtually is so hard. I've seen some amazing videos made by teachers who are just teaching a lesson online. But with humor, flair & intention. Ms. Klatt & her boyfriend rock Cowboy Science. SOOOOO much better than a worksheet. #rrchat sites.google.com/summitk12.org/…

A5 Yes, it's hard to know that you're missing whole sections of your class. I am very worried about the kids who aren't able to connect. But to make curriculum authentic & relevant, the kids don't need to read exclusively about the Spanish flu, but maybe a short visit. #rrchat

And there is NO better time to really understand the benefits of reading to ESCAPE, to take your mind off of your problems, to travel to another land (COVID-free), to entertain. I hope this is one lesson we are ALL learning, over and over again. #rrchat

A6 I hope that everyone is getting outside for fresh air & the slow, waking up of spring. We're still under snow but I shoveled today so my tulips can push through! I found one! Natural sciences give us so much to wonder about and notice...moon journals, budding trees...#rrchat

So great to chat with a teacher and parent tonight. Thank you, Leah Mermelstein Consulting (LMC), for the great conversation. I was happily diverted from quarantine! Ready to teach tomorrow! #rrchat

The kids at PS 24 misheard me on our zoom this morning. They thought I said I had a Tik Tok when I said I had a Ted Talk. For about six seconds, I was a VERY interesting author.

A2 News story here in the Dallas area of a T, who despite some objection from his district, is delivering additional learning tools, self-selected readers, food, bday treats to the homes of his students. He leaves it on the doorstep and rings the bell. He's hits all 3. #g2great

Luna just finished reading her first novel on her own! We’re so proud of her!!! (Yes, we handle the worksheets she’s assigned. Most of them. But during this Zoom school stretch We value independent reading over everything else.)

As educators rethink next year- If all we come up with is passing out diagnostic tests to quantify learning loss and then track kids into groups for remediation, it will be a terrible failure of imagination.
