From Zuid Holland to South Holland! I knew there must be a shortcut to @krankenhausfestival!😂 In lovely sunshine we cycled from Norfolk into Lincolnshire and sleep tonight under the stars of Fenland. Appropriately will read a bit in Edward Parnell's excellent book 'Ghostland'.

We cycled round the Wash today and followed the Water Railway Cycle Route from Boston to Lincoln. Sometimes in disrepair but beautiful on a whole. Almost 500 mostly flat miles are done now on the winding road to Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival... Yorkshire be kind to us! 🌊🌾🌳🦅🚴🍻🏳️‍🌈

So here we are in North Yorkshire! We followed many canals westwards and the Trans Pennine Trail took us into the foothills of Yorkshire. Wondrous to see how the landscape slowly changes and changes. But blackberries are almost everywhere and always worth a stop... 🌾🦅🌳🍻🚴🏳️‍🌈

Yorkshire cycle fun on our winding road to Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival. Industrial estates of Pontefract in the morning, later superb cycle lanes in Leeds. Then the real climbs into the Dales. Ilkley for provisions, Bolton Abbey for absolution. But the rain got us at last at the campsite.

Today things went wrong on the road to Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival... The freewheel hub broke on Barbara's bike and she had to go to the next available bike shop by taxi. I cycled on alone to Hawes. Steep climbs and heading into strong gales. Not an easy cycle but views were rewarding.

Hardest day of the tour to Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival so far. Barbara took off with her fixed bike from Kirkby & I cycled right into a strong head wind up Widdale. From Kendal we rode into pouring rain & more gales to Ambleside. Just one day left until we reach old @muncastercastle again.

Hullo Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival! Here we are again at Muncaster Castle! Had a final hard day cycling over Hawkshead, Broughton Moor, Kiln Bank and Birker Fell. Goodbye Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival! What a time we had again at Muncaster Castle! A weekend full of joy and wonderful entertainment. Thanks to crowd and crew and all the lovely people we met. Now we cycle across Cumbria again. Thankfully with a tail wind up Whinlatter Pass today.

So we left the Lake District today. Rain was pouring down all the way out of Keswick. Really tiresome ride in this weather across the hills of Cumbria though mostly quiet roads. And when we nearly arrived the road was closed and we had to go a long diversion to Hallbankgate.

This morning we could see clearly after the rain had gone. Bike cleaning, breakfast with our hosts & off to Northumberland. Followed the Tyne valley mostly. @ternsvenue in North Shields waited at the end of the road. Lovely evening chatting with noredindian &tasting local brews.

Well then, it's time to go. Sailing now, looking out for Orcas, lighthouses and always, always, always the sea... Long ride into Gelderland on endless cycle paths after our stop at Boulangerie Oscar in Ijmuiden this morning. We cycled all across Amsterdam and followed canals and rivers. Now pitched up in the garden of friends. Missing Krankenhaus Festival - a magical micro-festival a bit...🥐🌳🌾🚴🏕️🌞🏳️‍🌈

Lovely day cycling through the Veluwe into Achterhoek. Spooky Dorpfeest en route, lots of heather, canals, foresty paths and beautiful old Hansa city Zutphen. If only there hadn't been this head wind... 🌳🌞🏕️🚴🍻🏳️‍🌈

Sommer, Sonne, Stahlwerke... In wonderful sunshine we cycled back into Germany. On the boundary marker it said: Borders connect. Wise words in these days. In Duisburg we spend the last night of the tour at Landschaftspark Nord and wander around the illuminated former steelworks.

Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Köln, Bonn... from sunshine into rain and thunderstorms. We are back home again, a bit wet in the end and tired after a long ride. 🌞🌳🚴🌧️⚡🍻🏳️‍🌈
