I stayed in Bonn for 11 years! Thanks for the original curiosity and continued passion on science! Thanks for financial support from DFG public | @[email protected] and Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn! I am now ready for new challenges and willing to deepen “Plant Genetics” for agriculture and One Health in TU München !

Andrew Meselson (*1930) & Franklin Stahl (*1929) discovered that DNA replication is semi-conservative. Their 1958 paper is one of the landmarks in the history of molecular biology. They never received the #NobelPrize but are still alive! Their paper 👇 pnas.org/doi/full/10.10…

We have expanded our sequence indexed, transposon induced BonnMu maize 🌽 mutant repository ⁩to 426.000 insertions in 93% of genes w/ on av. 12 mutant alleles/gene. We have now also mutations in European Flint lines DK105, F7 & EP1. ⁦The Plant Journal onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/tp…

I learnt yesterday, that at the 2024 maize genetics meeting, with >500 attendants, only 27 printed copies of the abstract book were sold. I bought one of them. I guess these are now very rare and desirable collectors items 🤩. ⁦MaizeGeneticsCoop⁩ ⁦MaizeGDB

In this paper Michaela Matthes‘ group demonstrates that boron homeostasis in maize 🌽 is connected to the benzoxazinoid defense pathway via bx3 and specific intermediates.

Karen Koch, Don McCarty, Frank Hochholdinger and Caroline Marcon honored at #MGC2025 for the UniformMu and BonnMu reverse genetics resources. Changed the way we study genes in the maize genome and makes my job so much easier and more fun.

Without Karen & Don, BonnMu would not have been possible. They gave advice on MuSeq & even provided their whole dataset to test our bioinformatics pipeline. After thanking Karen for their data she said: „What else could I have done?“. That‘s the spirit of the maize community!
