Remembering casualty Ordinary Seaman Stanley Eric Reeves whose 100th birthday would have been yesterday. Stanley was born on 12th May 1923 in Southampton, Hampshire to William and Florence Reeves. The family lived in Bitterne. He was 18 years old at the time of his loss.

Remembering casualty Ordinary Seaman Anthony Victor Read whose 100th birthday would have been today. Born on 13th May 1923 in Southampton, Anthony trained at H.M.S. Ganges and served in H.M.S. Frobisher before being drafted to Hood. He was 18 years old at the time of his loss.

Special Service Squadron Wed 2 April 1924, at Hobart. 1000 - Ceremonial March cancelled (bad weather) 1330 - golf and tennis at Kingston beach. 2000 - supper & dance for 60 ratings at Claremont 2030 - Ball at Govt House. 60 Officers invited. Hood open to visitors 1400 - 1730.

Friday 2nd May 1924 found Hood at Wellington, New Zealand. In the morning the Squadron lost a golf match to Heretaunga and HOOD lost a cutter race by 7 seconds to CHATHAM. The evening saw a dance for Petty Officers at the Town Hall.

Today is the 69th anniversary of the passing of the Walter Cowan, the 2nd admiral to fly his flag in Hood as Rear-Admiral Commanding Battle Cruiser Squadron. His time in Hood from 31/3/1921 to 15/5/1923 included a trip to Brazilian centennial celebrations in 1922.
