ok so basically before the Civil War the North thought the South was the opposite of what a good society should be.

the N thought the S was #lazy and #overthetop

btw when I say "the North" it's basically the same as saying "the Republican party" bc by 1860 the political parties were suuuper sectional

so the Republicans had their political views and there was even some disagreement within the party but they all agreed on one thing...

The N thought that their society based on free labor was top notch and the the S was their complete opposite
