Great preprint by Gupta et al. (2024) on how they increased high-light tolerance in #extremophilic microalga #Chlamydomonas pacifica with lab evolution, then improved lipid and starch production with genetic engineering followed by pilot-scale cultivation to produce #bioproducts.

This is a truly wild article. About 5% of cyanobacteria fished from the ocean are connected via nanotubes. These nanotubes are made from lipid membranes. Also, E. coli will sometimes grab onto microbes of *other* species, using these nanotubes, and share nutrients.
