Kufi’s work pulls from the Islamic traditions of repetition & patterning, while building improvisation into his process. His experimentation also takes the shape of language manipulation through abstract forms.

The Noigandres Group was made up of Brazilian poets Haroldo and Augusto de Campos and Decio Pignatari who set out with an ambitious dream: to change literature by creating a universal picture language that could be read by all and could dissolve linguistic and political barriers.

my favorite class of the semester is bring your own artist (BYOA) for recreation -- I get so inspired seeing the different voices people bring into the room.

it's also a reminder about serendipity, that finding an artist book in the bookstore or a paper that uses new terms can open up doors. the class is about the techniques of recreation and that act of looking, but also about being open to moments of serendipity with art.

If the army of any other regime was to raid one of the world’s holiest sites, ransack it, shoot rubber bullets, tear gas the worshippers inside, and assault medics on camera, it would be all over intentional news. But Israelis get a pass. It’s “complicated.” Colonial impunity.
