While the flooding has stopped in Thame, the devastation continues. Lower Thame which escaped the worst of the flooding is in peril as the land continues to erode away. While people are safe, their homes are continuing to be destroyed. #helpforthame

Throughout the perimeter of the flood-affected area, fissures are appearing, and the homes that still stand are deemed unlivable due to safety concerns. The municipal authorities have announced plans to carry out a safety assessment of the village.

The students of Thame school have now moved to Khumjung School via a route through the hills avoiding the slips & landslides. The students are safe in the school & a new temporary hostel is being created for them. It's been a challenging time for the students.

The incident in Thame is a stark reminder of the pace at which climate change impacts the Himalayas and the repercussions for local mountain communities. With climate change is intensifying, communities like Thame increasingly experience its effects, in frequency and intensity.

A day after the flood that destroyed the local clinic, HTN established an emergency clinic in a tent at Thameteng to provide essential medical services to flood victims and the local community. The clinic has now moved to a community building until a new facility is constructed.

There’s power in partnership. The people and communities of the Everest region are at the heart of our work. Sir Ed established the Trust to be inclusive, listening to the community, providing assistance where we can, and supporting their vision for a better future 🤝

This is Mingma Rita Sherpa who worked for the KBC energy company in Thame. His families home and lodge was completely lost in the floods and the power plant intake pond was also substantially damaged. (1/2)

(2/2) Despite all this, the KBC team has managed to get the power station working again and the village of Thame now has power. This is important as the station also provides power to Khunde and Khumjung, including the Hospital which has been without power since the flood.

Empowering communities through locally-led development creates sustainable change. We work closely with local organisations in Nepal, leveraging their unique expertise and knowledge. This partnership model, pioneered by Sir Ed, was groundbreaking and ensures long-term impact.

🌱 Although our forestry nursery in Thame was destroyed by recent flooding, our nursery in Phurte is still going strong, with more a new reforestation programme planned for the coming year. Together, we’re committed to restoring and protecting the natural beauty of the Himalayas.
