In October UN Human Rights Council agreed by consensus on the need for further concrete action to advance accountability for past and ongoing international crimes in Afghanistan. It should now establish an independent and comprehensive accountability mechanism.

We urge the UN Human Rights Council to heed UNSR's recommendation for the establishment of an additional comprehensive independent accountability mechanism demonstrating that the international community will not turn away from human rights violations in Afghanistan.
