By-law M-200 requires landlords to provide working smoke alarms in all rentals. If your unit has fuel-fired appliances, a CO alarm is required too. If you’re missing one, contact your landlord. If unresolved, call 311. Learn more: halifax.ca/home-property/…

Smoke alarms expire. Check the date—if it’s over 10 years old or doesn’t beep when tested, replace it now. Hardwired alarms should be replaced by a licensed electrician. A working alarm saves lives. Learn more: halifax.ca/safety-securit…
