What a treat to work with Year 11 students at Bedford Academy this morning.

My key takeaways from Dan Nicholls' excellent session: (1) The fairest way to judge schools is on the performance of their disadvantaged pupils. (2) The importance of clear, excellent teaching which allows disadvantaged students 'in', and which they don't have to decipher.

Furthermore, the relationship between the performance of disadvantaged students (y) and the proportion of disadvantaged students (x), is of the form y = ax + b/x, with a minimum point around x = 0.16.
