I love moments like this - whole communities, all at once, collectively hit by a visceral understanding of their small place in the cosmic order.

I hear it all the time: 'independents are just Rs and Ds in sheep's clothing; we're 'leaners' with a holier-than-thou attitude, claiming to be above the partisan fray.'

There are more than two ways of thinking, but there are rarely more than two choices. Square peg, round hole.

That's a bizarre and offensive form of gaslighting for the millions of Americans who can't afford to move. Want to tell folks in DC or Louisiana they must move? Appalachia? Tribal reservations?

Man alive.

With primaries in the books, so begins the season of endless articles about hunting independent voters like we're mythical creatures.

Independent voters: you feel the momentum with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. I'm happy for you, but the major parties are banking on you falling off the map after the election.

Make a promise right now that, win or lose, you won't let this momentum fizzle on the first Wednesday in November.

Nationally, just 8.49% of state elections (state house & senate) were competitive in the 2022 general election.

So when someone tells you independents have the right to vote in the general election, remind them that there's a 91.5% chance that your vote doesn't matter at all.

Denying the son of an assassinated senator and the nephew of an assassinated president Secret Service protection when he's polling at 18% is legitimately dystopian.

Congratulations on your campaign, Dean Phillips, and good on your for your immediate, heartfelt endorsement. I hope now Democrats will see your campaign for what it was: an honest attempt to improve the odds that Trump loses in November.

I deeply appreciate Nikki Haley running a brave, principled campaign, and I respect her now for refusing to endorse Trump. I don't like her politics, but I respect her character.
