Today in STEM, the students attempted to build two-story earthquake proof structures. It's a good thing they know that in the design process, often your first attempt is unsuccessful, so you analyze what isn't working and make modifications to your design. HapevilleHawks
Thank you for your visit, Ms. Thornton!! Our 5th grade HapevilleHawks greatly enjoyed your engaging and informative lesson! Georgia Power #LearningPower
❤️Valentine's Day❤️ math and science, dissolving candy hearts in different liquids to study physical change and determining decimal fractions. HapevilleHawks
Today in STEM, students explored more chemical reactions and tested which combination of substances would create the most gas by measuring the circumference of balloons inflated by the reactions. HapevilleHawks
More chemical reactions with our 5th grade #STEM club: Alka Seltzer Rockets Learning is FUN!!! HapevilleHawks

Through hands-on investigations, Ss were able to use cubes and boxes to derive equations for finding the volume of rectangular prisms. They transfered that knowledge to Minecraft Education to build prisms w/ specified volumes. It was a great first week in 5th grade! HapevilleHawks
Exploring static electricity and magnetism- it's like magic, but it's real!! Christian SL Padgett HapevilleHawks where the science, I mean #wherethemagichappens
Today, students explored chemical reactions with an experiment testing how different ratios of baking soda & vinegar affect gas production; putting their measurement skills into practice. The smiles and excitement while leaning show why HapevilleHawks is #wherethemagichappens
Our 5th graders were highly engaged and learned so much today about plant classification while getting to be plant taxonomists during our outreach lesson with Atlanta Botanical Garden gardens. Christian SL Padgett HapevilleHawks #WheretheMagicHappens
Our classroom was buzzing with excitement today as students observed tadpoles up close! 🐸🔍 Their curiosity and enthusiasm were contagious as they learned about the early stages of amphibian life in our study of vertebrates! Christian SL Padgett HapevilleHawks #WheretheMagicHappens!
5th graders used a dichotomous key to classify Pokémon! Huge thanks to Thomas J. Bussey | 5th Grade Teacher for creating such realistic cards bringing engagement levels off the charts! Students even applied critical thinking skills to debate & classify more abstract characters. HapevilleHawks
Scientific debate of the day: Is the Pokémon, Gyarados, an amphibian🐸 or fish🐟? Students used evidence and their dichotomous keys to persuade their classmates. Many decided 🐠 based on scales & a mostly aquatic life. What do you think??? Thomas J. Bussey | 5th Grade Teacher Christian SL Padgett
From examining bones & feathers to understanding the unique characteristics of different species, our young explorers were fully engaged & inspired by the knowledgeable Chattahoochee National Park forest rangers today! 🦌🐍 Christian SL Padgett HapevilleHawks #WheretheMagicHappens
