It’s day 1 of the state golf tournament at The Den GC. The field is great and the fan support is amazing. Hersey’s Owen Spokas tees off at 10:36.

Day 1 of the great High School State Golf Tournament is over and Hersey’s Owen Spokas put up five birdies in a round of 75 for 17th place. He’s ready, willing and able for tomorrow’s final round battle for All State Honors.

Hersey golf pro Owen Spokas is on his back 9 of the State tournament and is -3 for the day only two shots from the leader!

Illinois high school golf is divided into three divisions based on school sizes (1A, 2A and 3A being the largest school division and the Hersey Golf’s assigned division); the State tournament is played over two days with a cut after day 1.

Hersey junior Owen Spokas made the cut in the highly competitive 3A State Tournament and, after his outstanding, 74 on day 2, he finished T15 in the entire state of Illinois. Hersey coaches could not be more impressed with both Owen the golfer and Owen the person!

The amazing culture of Hersey golf was on display at the State tournament as Tucker Hemminger, Kyle Carlson, Henry Esposito, Henry Wendell and Michael Szabo drove the 250 miles (there and back in one day) to watch their teammate, Owen Spokas, contend for All State Honors!

Hersey Varsity Golf X is back for the end of the season “major championships” of high school golf!

On September 25, 2025 the golfing Huskies clinched the overall MSL Conference Championship and the Conference Tournament with a stellar score of 288.

Winning the great MSL Golf Conference Championship and MSL Tournament made September 25, 2025 a very special day, but there was so much more!

Senior, Tucker Hemminger became only the eighth Hersey golfer to win the MSL Conference Tournament with a school record tying 68.

It was a quite memorable day (Sept. 25, 2025) for the entire Hersey Golf program, not only did the varsity win the MSL Conference and Tucker Hemminger win the MSL Conference Tournament, the Hersey JV golfers won the MSL JV Conference.

Coach Gunther’s JV golf stars won the overall conference AND won the Conference Tournament at Chevy Chase GC. Sophomore, Colin Lockwood led the golfing Huskies by winning the title with a brilliant score of 65!!

The MSL Conference Golf Championship was an incredible accomplishment for the golfing Huskies, but perhaps equally impressive was the run of 5 straight wins vs the great teams of Barrington, Prospect, Fremd, Palatine and Conant putting the team into position to win the MSL.

Led by Owen Spokas, the golf for the 5-0 run was so impressive that MSL coaches unanimously voted him player of the week.

Inspired by their MSL Conference Championship, the Hersey golfers took their golf skill to Palatine GC for the IHSA Regional (State Qualification Series).

In a brutal golf battle with Stevenson HS, the golfing Huskies prevailed on the 6th score tie-breaker and won the IHSA regional.

Dick Quagliano of the Daily Herald said it best in his excellent story on the Regional win for the Huskies, “Complete Team Effort…” Next stop on the golf tour that is high school golf is the Sectional Championship at Buffalo Grove GC which determines State Qualification.
