Results can be misleading, this annual ritual of setting targets 5% higher than last year is bollocks (I never do that, it is cohort specific so we never set targets). What's important is that you did everything you could for the children. Do that and the results will follow...

We continue to bemoan 1/3 students graded below 4 in Eng Lang when a. grade boundaries are set for that approx proportion b. Eng Lang GCSE is a poor exam that doesn't test competence in use of lang in a meaningful way c. marking is erratic, so the results aren't even reliable.

A HoD's email on GCSE results: 'I’ve worked out that there’s a potential 3 grades’ difference between a student consistently given the bottom mark in each level, and a student consistently given the top - and yet both marks are considered within tolerance.' How can this be fair?
