One thing I never see in these write-ups is the advice that experts should do things that make them personally worthy of trust They should strive to be non-partisan, minimize politics, to handle controversial subjects gracefully instead of didmissively, and they should never lie

I'd respect the Democrats' position more if they weren't committed to pretending that they're not the ones making demands before they will consent to reopen the government.

It blows my mind that other Democrats can't grasp this is how you handle Trump. He's one of the most easily massaged politicians in history, and they're too busy losing their minds to just work with him.
