The suffragette Emily Davison was fatally injured on 4 Jun 1913 after running in front of the King’s horse during the Derby. Analysis of the newsreel film of the event suggests she was trying to pin a WSPU flag to the horse’s reins. She died 4 days later. The horse was uninjured.

Thomas Arnold, the pioneering head of Rugby School, died on 12 Jun 1842 aged 47. The style of football played at Rugby provided the basis for the game that became rugby football. He had the good fortune to have a Cornish wife, Mary Penrose, the daughter of the vicar of Penryn.

Magna Carta was sealed between King John & his barons on 15 June 1215 at Runnymede. The idea that it was a charter for human rights is erroneous as ordinary people were not mentioned. It was designed to end the conflict between monarch and lords.

Remember where they stood when it mattered... In 2021, I called a debate in Parliament exposing the rape gang scandal & calling for a full inquiry. Just ONE of Keir Starmer’s MP’s decided to turn up and listen – worth remembering in the weeks ahead👇

The Somme offensive was launched on 1 Jul 1916 and the fighting would drag on for a further four months. More than 19,000 British soldiers died on the first day alone, the greatest single day’s loss in British military history. Total British casualties would exceed 420,000

Bit unfair on the French team that the South African referee, with quite a pronounced SA accent, doesn’t have a word of French. #RedRoses
