Kamala Harris didn't lose, America did. As a nation, we collectively failed her—and in doing so we failed girls and women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, Muslims, Jewish people, immigrants, the sick, the poor, the elderly, the people of Ukraine, and Gaza, and the planet.

There is one critical takeaway here. Kamala Harris was not the problem. She had great policy. She had strong values. She had a superb message. She had a stellar ground game. She had immense energy and compassion and love for America. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

For the people. Always.

To anyone who intends to come take away the freedom, opportunity, and dignity of Illinoisans, I would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior. You come for my people – you come through me.

Chin up, team. Take some time. Take care of yourself. Take care of your loved ones. Take care of your community. There are a million ways to make a difference—get back in the fight when you’re ready. And know that, whenever you are ready, I’ll be ready to get back in with you.

Illinois will do more than just protect against the possible reversion to an agenda that threatens to take us backward. We'll continue to advance a positive, productive, and inclusive agenda of our own – one that brings opportunity here and helps uplift the nation as a whole.

12 years ago, 20 first-graders and six educators were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They should still be with us—finishing their first semester of college, teaching, laughing, and making new memories. We must honor their memory with action that addresses gun violence.

“Pro-life” would be 20 Sandy Hook students being college freshmen this year.
