Olympian Melissa Hoskins had a right to be safe in her home. Instead, she was killed by husband Rohan Dennis, while the media now praise his cycling career & dilute her name. Australia is in a domestic violence crisis. Our failing media isn't helping #MelissaHoskins #SayHerName

I had the absolute pleasure of hosting at the Newcastle Writers Festival tonight. Authors Duane Hamacher, Krystal De Napoli and I yarned about how Big Sky Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the oldest scientists in human history. Great night!

The biggest threat we face in Australia from violence day to day is domestic violence, which is proven to be predominantly gendered violence. Australia needs to do more to protect women by targeting male violence in ALL forms. #believewomen

"We will not be a state where a woman is forced to change their behaviour" Premier Minns told crowds today at Bondi. I'd have liked him to have said, "We will NO LONGER BE a state where a woman is forced to change their behaviour" because we do & will until DV laws are tougher.

In the shadows of silence, countless women endure the tyranny of coercive control, their voices stifled by fear. In Australia, the extent of gendered violence remains obscured. Domestic terrorism victims are often invisible until the unthinkable happens 💔 abc.net.au/news/2024-04-2…

It’s a national crisis ✔️ It’s up to men ✔️ Nothing changes if nothing changes, and we need SO much to change for women to be able to flee DV safely in this country. Listen to our stories! Ask us what could’ve been done better. #victimsurvivour #coercivecontrol #dv #itsuptomen

The Family Law overhaul is welcomed. Where there has been domestic violence, including coercive control, equal shared parental responsibility orders have provided the perpetrator of abuse with a legal channel to continue it. theconversation.com/family-law-has… via The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand

Today I’m proud to announce that the Greens will bring a Bill for a Truth and Justice Commission to the parliament. We must tell the truth about the violence and dispossession in this country’s history if we want to heal and close the gap for First Nations people.

The misinformation peddled during the referendum campaign showed the urgent need for a more honest discussion about where we’ve been and where we’re going. First Nations people have called for a Truth and Justice Commission to achieve that truth-telling.

Changes urged as NT's 'shocking' DV reality exposed. Aboriginal women in the NT are 40 times more likely to be hospitalised for domestic violence with domestic violence accounting for 50-80 per cent of NT police's entire workload. 9news.com.au/national/chang…
