I joined the ‘Team Europe Cooperation on #GenderEquality in Mexico’ meeting hosted by Unión Europea en México 🇪🇺🇲🇽 and AMEXCID, during which we discussed new initiatives & renewed cooperation between the EU & Mexico to fight gender-based violence & boost equality in the region. #WorldOfEquality

I had the pleasure to meet Alicia Bárcena, Mexico’s Foreign Minister. We discussed issues of common interest and joint actions between the European Union and Mexico; also the advancement of gender equality and empowerment strategies for women and girls. #WorldOfEquality

I joined the reception with EU Heads of Missions in Mexico to celebrate the culmination of a mandate of dedicated work on promoting #Equality – both within the EU and across our external actions. #WorldOfEquality

Today, in Mexico City, I visited one of Red Nacional de Refugios, AC’s shelters for women escaping from violence, which assists survivors in their recovery by providing safe, easily accessible, adequate, and appropriate living conditions. #WorldOfEquality

#ViolenceAgainstWomen & #DomesticViolence are a painful and concerning reality all around the world. The EU has been working on prevention, prosecution & support to the victims, through a directive on #VAW & #DW at the EU level & global initiatives such as the Iniciativa Spotlight.

“I am my own muse; I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to know better.” These powerful words accompanied my visit to the Museo Frida Kahlo in Mexico-City, where I learnt more about the life and art of an icon for women’s freedom & empowerment.

The #Paris2024 #Paralympics (28 August to 8 September) are fast-approaching. The Paralympics bring together athletes with disabilities to compete on the world stage. A high-level sports event that puts the spotlight on human achievement and diversity. #WorldOfEquality

At #EPSCO at EU Council, we discussed challenges persons with disabilities face in accessing quality employment. This is key to autonomy & inclusion. #EUDisabilityRights Strategy urges MSs to set targets & policies & #DisabilityEmploymentPackage offers employers guidance.

At the 1st plenary session of the new European Parliament, I discussed with MEP Evelyn Regner our achievements in building a #UnionOfEquality during this European Commission mandate. We spoke about the importance of maintaining our efforts to ensure effective implementation of equality laws

At the 1st European Parliament sitting I met Marc Angel and Robert Biedroń. We evaluated our work during the past 5 years and looked ahead at the priorities for the new parliament during the coming term to continue building a #UnionOfEquality
