I ❤️ starting my year by having students say their name in a Flip. I also asked students to share their pronouns and what they were excited about learning this year. Creating a seating chart on day 1 ensures I don’t say incorrect names on the first day when taking role.

Just submitted our 2022 book for critique and submission Herff Jones and @ National Scholastic Press Association. Knowing that there is an authentic audience brings engagement. Entering contests gives an extra confidence boost! So proud of my sts! San Marcos USD Double Peak School

This past week I had the privilege of attending & presenting at the SDCOE VAPA conference. What a rewarding day learning from other educators about equity, trauma informed teaching, and how to lead my students in expressing themselves through the arts. San Marcos USD

Today for their 5 min sketchbk challenge, I asked sts to show what they were feeling through line and color. This student created their “day” sharing the different experiences they felt today. We had such great conversations through student artwork. San Marcos USD Double Peak School

Street Art vs Graffiti Socratic Seminar. Letting sts create their own opinions and have in-depth discussions happens all the time in the art room. Most of these 7th/8th graders have never participated in a Socratic Seminar before today. San Marcos USD Double Peak School

Sts collaborated to create chalk murals for an authentic audience (Harvest Festival). I knew they were proud of their work when they started showing off their art to their peers. One student told me she came to school just for this! San Marcos USD Double Peak School

Art can be a great means of SEL. Middle school st artist statement: “I made my self portrait small because that is how I feel a lot is small, and the eyes because sometimes it’s like people are watching me all the time even though they aren’t.” Double Peak School

Sts were given 18 🎈for each spread that is due, along with 6 gold 🎈 to represent ybk jobs that need to be finished this week. Staff members had to keep their 🎈 in the air even when some sts were tagged out. Great discussions on the importance of collaboration! Double Peak School

❤️ the excitement sts have to create their geometric boxes. Sts came in before school, at lunch, and begged to stay after school on a Friday so they could keep working. I didn’t give them a specific deadline they just wanted to be there. Sts ❤️ the Arts!

Students participated in a gallery walk that showcased their series of 3 ceramic bowls. I loved having students give each other compliments instead of it all coming from me. I also loved that most sts saved their comments. ❤️ Double Peak School San Marcos VAPA

Sts are loving this sewing unit inspired by Next In Fashion Not wanting to miss even 1 class. Sts told me they came to school just to make sure they didn’t miss the lesson. 8th-graders literally jumped up and down with excitement sewing for the first time. Double Peak School
