Osler made the very difficult decision to formally initiate a Code Orange (Stage 2). This is due to an increase in COVID-19 patient volumes across Osler and staffing challenges that have affected our capacity.

Canada ranks near the bottom of OECD countries when it comes to hospital beds per capita. For context, we had 90% of hospitals beds in use in Canada before the pandemic even started. Why are we not having a national conversation on the inadequacies of our healthcare capacity?

For a local example of hospital capacity limitations, prior to #Covid_19 pandemic, we declared an healthcare emergency in #Brampton for the lack of hospital beds. We were consistently over 100% capacity and this was before the pandemic even started.globalnews.ca/news/6447872/b…

Final point? It will be impossible to predict what will peak first, staffing shortages, or the Omicron wave. So if you have mild flu like symptoms, assume you have Omicron, and STAY OUT OF THE EMERGENCY ROOM. Let's minimize their exposure and keep ahead of the wave. /12
