The impact of HeadStart Wolves in improving the mental and emotional wellbeing of children & young people in Wolverhampton is being celebrated at the HeadStart Wolverhampton ā Our Journey event Wolverhampton Races today. Opening the proceedings are Miss Keisha Riley and Mischa Sawyer.


Launched thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, HeadStart Wolves used a ātest & learnā approach to support 10 to 16-year-olds & worked with community providers, services and schools to engage with youngsters and give them the skills they need to cope with the challenges of modern life.


Jessica Deighton, from the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families Anna Freud, has given a keynote speech at the HeadStart Wolves event this morning.


Well over 13,000 young people in the city accessed HeadStart Wolves support over the six year programme, along with over 700 parents and guardians. A total of 75 community organisations were involved in the design and delivery of the programme.



Sharing their experiences of the HeadStart Wolves programme with the audience Wolverhampton Races were Gurbax Kaur and her Positive Participation specialist mental health services team.


HeadStart Wolverhampton ā Our Journey celebrates the HeadStart Wolves Wolverhampton journey, and the legacy that it leaves behind. The event is featuring showcases from some of the participants, including Luke Tyler speaking about the work of YMCA Black Country.



Chris Allen from WV10 Consortium has been speaking about his organisation's role in the HeadStart Wolves programme, which has supported the mental health and emotional wellbeing of 10 to 16-year-olds in Wolverhampton.


HeadStart Wolverhampton ā Our Journey celebrates the Headstart Wolverhampton journey, and the legacy that it leaves behind. The event is featuring showcases from some of the participants, including @MoretonSchool & X2Y LGBT Youth Group.


The HeadStart Wolves programme primarily supported children, young people & families in four areas of the city; Low Hill, Bushbury and The Scotlands; Blakenhall, All Saints, Parkfields and Ettingshall; Heath Town, Park Village, Eastfield, Springfield and Old Heath; and Bilston East.


Sharing their stories of the HeadStart Wolves programme were representatives of Changing Our Lives Changing Our Lives.



Learning from the HeadStart Wolves programme has already been embedded in city services like Wolverhamptonās Youth Engagement Strategy (#YES) and #YoWolves, which aims to give young people in the city more opportunities and support with their mental health.
